About Me

Namaste, I am Tanka Prasad Gaire. Welcome to my website! I was born and raised in Thana, Galkot – a remote village in the Baglung District of Nepal. Despite my strong desire to reside and provide service to the country of my origin, I traveled to many places (and countries) in search of better job opportunities. During this process, I found my passion in serving people as a CHEF and worked in various restaurants where I learned to cook Indian, Thai, Indonesian, Chinese, and Japanese cuisines. I currently own multiple Indian restaurants under the franchise “INDIAN RESTAURANT MINA” serving authentic Indian (and Nepali) dishes in various cities of Fukuoka Ken, Japan.

I am a compassionate person. To give back to the society where I grew up, I am involved in many projects in various sectors (hydropower, hotel, tourism, etc.) in Nepal. I am actively involved in many philanthropic and social service activities. In addition, I have voluntarily served in multiple organisations by taking on different roles. For example, I am an active member of the Lions Club, through which we provide infrastructure to the underprivileged people of Nepal. I am also the joint treasurer of NRNA (Non-Resident Nepali Association).

I stand where I am today only because of my hope, dedication, hard work, and support from friends and family. I want to be a perfect reflection of success to people who think of giving up after multiple failures. I believe that if I could, then anyone can.

Married to Mina Kumari Kandel

1991

Successfully passed +2 from Birendra Multiple Campus, Chitwan

1992

  • Joined bachelor’s in Birendra Multiple Campus for Major English
  • Left bachelors midway and went to Malaysia in search of job
  • Due to difficult circumstances returned from Malaysia in less than three months

1993-1996

  • Founded a boarding school named New Sunrise in Dharmachowk,
    Lanku, Chitwan.
  • Worked as a teacher and later became Vice-Principal of the school.

1996-1998

Went to Japan as a cook

  • 1996 – Worked in Indian Restaurant Gandhara and two other restaurants for nearly a year.
  • 1998 – Started his own restaurant Maharaja, but closed within six months due to poor business.

1999-2003

  • Worked as a cook in a Japanese restaurant in Hamamatsu city for four years.
  • Experienced with multiple cuisines like Indian, Japanese, Thai, Chinese, and Indonesian.

2003-2006

Started new Asian Restaurant under the name Sharma Restaurant in Fukuoka

  • Opened two more branches of “SHARMA”.
  • Still, the business wasn’t successful, and sold all three restaurants within three years.

2007-2012

Started new restaurant under the name Indian Restaurant Mina

  • Started a new Indian restaurant “MINA” in Munakata, Fukuoka, Japan.
  • The restaurant was a huge success and, in under one year, opened another branch in Norimatsu, Fukuoka.
  • Then successfully ran 12 restaurants under the “MINA” franchise.

2011

Joined NRNA Japan as a member.

2012-Present

Currently the owner of six restaurants under the franchise name “MINA”.

2015-2017

  • Became Vice-President of NRNA Japan.
  • 2015: Joined Lions Club of Dhumbarahi

2017-2019

  • Became an ICC member of NRNA.
  • 2017-2018: Became president of the Lions Club of Dhumbarahi
  • 2018: Went to the US to attend the Lions Worldwide Convention
  • 2018-2019: Became Zone-Chairperson of Lions Club
  • 2018-Present: Ambassador of Lions Club to Japan

2021-2023

  • Became joint-treasurer of NRNA
